We were able to spend a truly special week in Sciacca, where the coordinators of our Erasmus+ project met with our Sicilian partner. The days were filled with fascinating impressions, inspiring discussions, and heartfelt hospitality.
We were particularly impressed by the sustainable classroom that the Italian school built in its courtyard – surrounded by trees and plants, equipped with solar panels and environmentally friendly materials. There, during a chemistry lesson, we experienced how bioplastic can be produced from biodegradable substances – an excellent example of how sustainability can be taught in a practical way. 🌿🧪
Throughout the week, all partner schools presented their own sustainable classrooms and shared innovative ideas – ranging from recycling projects and energy-saving lighting to the integration of digital tools. The diversity of approaches demonstrated how creatively sustainability can be implemented in education.
Another important focus was the presentation of the project’s results. Each school showcased its activities so far – from environmental education initiatives to joint eTwinning projects promoting digital collaboration. Together, we decided to create a handbook that will compile all good practices and sustainable ideas. Each school will upload its contributions – texts, photos, videos, and QR codes – to a shared Google Drive folder.
We also held a meeting on evaluation, finances, and communication. The Hungarian partner school coordinated the project evaluation and summarized the progress so far. New tasks were agreed upon: each country will produce four podcasts and five TikTok videos to make the project’s results more visible. Financial matters were also discussed, such as the accounting of funds for the handbook and the sustainable classroom.
The Italian, Greek, and Hungarian partners took charge of planning public relations activities: a website, Facebook, TikTok, newsletters, and YouTube will continue to accompany and promote the project.
A particularly important topic was the preparation of the Dissemination Days, which will take place simultaneously in all partner countries on November 27, 2025. Through live connections, presentations, student contributions, small gifts, and media presence, we aim to make the outcomes of our project visible across Europe.
Finally, we planned our next mobility in Strasbourg: we will visit the European Parliament, take part in a debate, and present our sustainable classrooms. The program will also include guided city tours, cultural visits, and presentations to Members of the European Parliament – another step in connecting sustainability, education, and European cooperation.
Of course, there was also time to experience Sicilian culture. Under beautiful weather, we strolled through the streets of Sciacca, explored the harbor, visited Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, and enjoyed the Mediterranean atmosphere.
We look back on productive, enriching, and warm days – days that once again showed us that sustainability and European cooperation go hand in hand.
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful hosts in Sciacca for their kindness, openness, and impressive work!
