-Together for a sustainable future!

Dear readers,

An eventful month lies behind us! Our school has been working intensively on topics relating to sustainability, environmental protection and the circular economy. As part of our Erasmus+ project, we have gained valuable experience, conducted joint research and made significant progress in implementing our sustainable initiatives. Read here what has happened over the past few weeks!

Sustainable sport, waste separation and recycling in the classroom

In class, we have been working intensively on the topics of sustainable sport, waste separation and recycling. This was particularly in view of our upcoming Erasmus mobility to Slovakia.

The students carried out group work and research to raise awareness of sustainable sports and better understand environmentally friendly practices in everyday life. The discussions were very exciting and helped to raise awareness of sustainable behavior.

Our partners in Greece – sustainability and creativity

Our Greek partner schools were also active and implemented various sustainability projects:

Circular economy and recycling: visiting “In Common”, a circular economy project, and participating in a recycling game in the old town of Thessaloniki.
Medicinal plants and botany: Participation in an educational program at the Elassonas Environmental Education Center.
Sustainable production: Production of recyclable products such as candles, soaps, ceramics, clothing and oils for the Christmas bazaar.
Sustainable Christmas bazaar: Organization of a bazaar with recyclable products to raise awareness of sustainable consumption.
International cooperation: Preparation for participation in the 3rd International Student Conference in Padua (March 2025) on the topic “When the Earth creates art: the magnificence of the GeoparksMeteora and Dolomites”.
Student exchange with Regensburg: exchange with a school in Germany on topics such as sports in nature – mountain hiking, sledging, forest walks and cycling.

Our Hungarian partners – sustainability in everyday life

Our Hungarian partner school dealt intensively with environmental issues:

International Mountain Day (December 11): Events on the protection of mountain ecosystems and their sustainability.
Sustainable Christmas tree: discussion about the ecological impact of artificial and real Christmas trees.
Film club: continuation of the film club with a focus on environmental and climate protection issues.
Cake market for a good cause: A sustainable Christmas market was organized where students sold homemade cakes. The proceeds were donated to charity. The conscious use of resources was particularly important here.

Our partners in Slovakia – environmental awareness in everyday school life

Our Slovakian partners have launched a number of sustainable initiatives to raise environmental awareness at their school:

Waste separation at school: students created a presentation on proper waste separation, which was presented in the classrooms to raise awareness.
Posters on sustainability: Creation of information posters on the topics of saving paper, water and energy, sustainable nutrition, environmentally friendly transportation and recycling.
Sustainability notice board: A central information point in the school where content on sustainable topics is regularly published.
Paper collection at school: Organization of a collection campaign for waste paper to promote recycling.
Composting: Introduction of a composting system for organic waste from the school kitchen.
Preparation of a sustainable classroom: The pupils were actively involved in cleaning and designing a room to be used as a sustainable learning space. A meeting was also held with the architect.

These measures show how sustainability can already be anchored in everyday school life and how pupils can actively participate in environmentally friendly solutions.

Our partners in Italy
– This month our school has been dedicated to organizing meetings and conducting preliminary research for the development of the sustainable TEACHING ROOM. We have made appointments and met the architect responsible for the design of the structure and the students have actively participated in the planning discussions. They had the opportunity to express their needs and contribute with ideas and suggestions, as well as conducting extensive research on sustainability and creating environmentally friendly learning spaces. The exchange between the students and the architect was very positive and provided an important learning and collaboration opportunity that created a solid foundation for the implementation of the project.

– This month in class, we also covered the topic of sustainable sport, waste separation and recycling. This was done with a view to our upcoming Erasmus mobility to Slovakia, and in order to develop this topic in the best possible way, we exchanged ideas intensively in class, researched together and worked in groups. Through these activities, we were able to expand our knowledge and better understand important aspects of sustainable sport.
Outlook for the coming months
The coming weeks promise more exciting activities! Our next Erasmus mobility is coming up and we are looking forward to continuing to realize sustainable projects.
Stay tuned and join us on our journey towards a more sustainable future!
