Larissa 7 April 2025

The first day of the international meeting in Larisa was rich in experiences, educational activities and cultural exchange. Students and teachers from the Experimental High School of Larisa, Liceo Scientifico Statale Enrico Fermi Sciacca (Italy), SOŠ polytechnická Ul. SNP2 Zlaté Moravce (Slovakia) and Nyíregyházi Evangélikus Kossuth Lajos Gimnázium (Hungary) came together to take part in a varied programme combining education, culture and environmental awareness.

Welcome at the host school

The day began with a warm welcome at the Experimental High School of Larisa. Groups of students and teachers were welcomed and had the opportunity to get to know each other and set the mood for the coming days together. The first personal contact was characterised by openness and curiosity.

Guided tour of Larisa

The programme then continued with a guided tour of the city of Larisa. Led by an experienced city guide, the young people discovered important historical and cultural sights in the city, learnt about its long history and gained an impression of urban life in Greece. The tour was both educational and entertaining, and provided an opportunity for intercultural dialogue between the participants.

Visit to the Diachronic Museum

A special item on the programme was a visit to the Diachronic Museum of Larisa, which the groups reached by bus. The museum houses an impressive collection documenting the history of the Thessaly region from prehistory to modern times. The pupils had the opportunity to examine original archaeological finds and thus gain a deeper understanding of the past and its significance for the present.

Presentation of the school projects

A central highlight of the programme then took place in the museum’s auditorium: The presentation of the school projects. Each school presented their work, activities or research results – an excellent opportunity for the young people to learn from each other, be inspired and exchange ideas. The presentations helped to develop a strong sense of community and co-operation

Break with a light snack

After the intensive presentations, there was a short break with a light picnic. In a relaxed atmosphere, the groups of students were able to get to know each other better and make new friends – in keeping with the European school spirit.

Workshop on the topic of composting

Another important part of the day was the workshop on composting, run by Mr Oichaliotis. This not only imparted theoretical knowledge, but also demonstrated practical applications that can help promote sustainability in everyday life. The participants learnt how organic waste can be sensibly recycled – an important contribution to the environmental awareness of the younger generation.

End of the day and free time with the host families

After an interesting day, the official programme came to an end. The students spent the rest of the afternoon and evening with their host families, a wonderful opportunity to experience Greek hospitality at first hand, familiarise themselves with everyday life and immerse themselves in the local culture.

Dinner for the teachers

The day ended with a dinner for the teachers. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the teachers reflected on the day’s events, exchanged views on teaching methods and school realities in the different countries and strengthened the basis for future cooperation.

The first day of the meeting in Larisa was rich in impressions, characterised by openness, the joy of learning and the development of international friendships. It was a successful start to a week full of shared experiences and intercultural encounters.
