As part of the Erasmus+ project, an international meeting took place in Nyíregyháza, offering a comprehensive insight into the various dimensions of sustainability. The program intentionally combined scientific approaches, practical activities, industrial examples, and creative forms of learning.
Expert Presentations and a Sustainable Learning Environment
During the official opening, the partner countries presented their sustainability activities as well as the environmentally conscious classrooms developed within the project.
The presentations demonstrated that transforming the learning environment—through, for example:
- a green wall (HU),
- the use of recycled furniture (GR),
- and energy-efficient solutions (IT, HU, SK, GR),
makes a significant contribution to raising students’ awareness and promotes sustainable thinking in everyday school life.
Urban Sustainability and Institutional Cooperation
During a city tour, participants explored the sustainability efforts of the city of Nyíregyháza using a digital tool (Redmenta).
During the visit to the mayor, the following were presented:
- the city’s sustainability strategy,
- the development of green spaces,
- energy-efficient investments,
- as well as local environmental initiatives.
This part of the program highlighted that sustainability can only be successfully implemented through institutional cooperation.
Workshops and Creative Learning
Throughout the program, numerous workshops were conducted, including topics such as:
- climate-friendly heat generation and energy management,
- smart home solutions,
- sustainable construction and building materials,
- as well as research approaches for developing sustainable learning environments.
The slam poetry workshop enabled participants to engage creatively with sustainability topics and strengthened their emotional and social connection to ecological issues.
Science and Environmental Analysis
On the second day, students investigated environmental problems through practical experiments:
- measurement and analysis of water quality,
- experiments on air pollution (e.g., sulfur dioxide).
These activities contributed to a deeper understanding of ecological interconnections.
Biodiversity and Nature Conservation
As part of joint activities:
- greening initiatives were implemented,
- an insect hotel was built to protect pollinators,
- and topics such as species conservation and biodiversity were explored at the Sóstó Zoo.
These experiences highlighted the importance of protecting ecosystems.

Industrial Best Practices
As part of the program, participants also visited industrial partners:
- at the Unilever plant, they gained insights into sustainable production processes,
- at the Michelin factory, the focus was on circular economy and energy efficiency.
These visits demonstrated that companies play a key role in sustainable development.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
A start-up (Dressuphouse) was also presented during the program, showcasing sustainable business models.
The visit to the Digital Knowledge Center further demonstrated that digital innovation and sustainability are closely interconnected.

The meeting in Nyíregyháza followed a holistic approach, combining:
- ecological,
- economic,
- and social dimensions.
Participants not only expanded their knowledge but also learned practical methods that they can apply in their own schools and communities.
